Goodnotes Classroom and Goodnotes 6 allow you to use any of 3 methods to create a Goodnotes Account:
- Apple
- Microsoft
Each of the options can be used to create a Goodnotes Account for your Students and Teachers once you have verified your domain in the Goodnotes Admin Console.
For Managed Apple IDs, however, you may find that additional steps are necessary in order to allow you users to create a Goodnotes Account using Apple.
Why can't I create a Goodnotes Account with Apple?
If your institution uses Apple IDs, you may be using Managed Apple IDs. These are accounts created and managed using Apple School Manager (ASM) and allows IT Admins to control certain parameters like app access, downloads, iCloud use and more.
If you are using Managed Apple IDs, your settings on ASM may be interfering with users ability to sign in to third party apps, like Goodnotes and Goodnotes Classroom, and create an account.
In these circumstances, your users may see a message like the one below when trying to create a Goodnotes Account.
How can I fix this?
There is an easy fix to this and requires you, as the IT Admin, to head to Apple School Manager and change a few settings:
- Enable Sign in with Apple - guide on how to do this
- Include email addresses when creating Managed Apple IDs, whether you use the SFTP method or federated authentication, you must make sure that Managed Apple IDs include email addresses and are not using Private Relay.
-
Ensure that the managed Apple ID field and the optional email field on ASM are the exact same.
How do I verify my domain?
If you have not yet verified your domain, you will need to do this before trying to create any Goodnotes Accounts that link to your Organization. Please see the following article and go through the steps to verify your domain:
