Please see here for Release Notes for anything about Goodnotes Classroom or Goodnotes 6 for Students using Classroom Features.
Updated 8.12.2024
Goodnotes Classroom
Log in
- The first time a Teacher attempts to log into the Goodnotes Classroom app, they will be unsuccessful. The Teacher will need to ask the IT Admin to “promote” them from a Student to Teacher; only then will a re-attempted login be successful. (All non-IT Admin users are assumed to be Students by default.)
- We recommend that only Teachers, and not IT Admins, log into the Goodnotes Classroom app. (Only Teacher users can access some of the more advanced functions, such as Lesson creation and Class folder sharing.)
- Teachers who have installed Goodnotes Classroom via Apple School Manager (MDM device), rather than from the App Store, may see an “Institutional Access Expired” banner on the main page. This does not impact usage of the app in any way.
- If a logged in user wants to log in with a different account on the same iPad device, we recommend that they first uninstall and re-install the Goodnotes Classroom app before logging in as another user. This ensures that the stored account and documents are cleanly reset.
Class folder
- You currently cannot delete Class folders. (The delete feature will be included in a future release.)
- Students must first be logged into the Goodnotes 6 app before they can be added to a Class folder. Please ensure that all Students are logged in ahead of time.
Lesson functionality - In-class
- If there is a noticeable delay in seeing Students’ answers - or if the Students are having issues seeing the Teachers’ annotations/actions - use the “Health Check” option from the Goodnotes Classroom menu bar to check for internet strength. This allows the Teacher to diagnose whether the environment’s wifi conditions are poor - if so, we recommend that the Teacher follows up with the IT Admin to address.
- If Teachers enter Teach mode in a Lesson with no existing Students, they will not be able to add Students. The workaround is to ensure that there are 1 or more existing Students for a given Lesson (and Class folder) ahead of time.
- When multiple students join the same Lesson during grading mode, this could cause the Lesson pages to flip automatically. If this causes issues, please re-start the app after all students have joined the document.
- While in “Smart view: by Question” mode, selecting images or stickers will cause a corresponding image/sticker annotation to the current Student being viewed.
Lesson functionality - Exporting
- When exporting multiple Lessons, you cannot choose which students’ work to export. (A more granular export option will be included in a future release.)
- When exporting a Lesson, the selection of which student work to export only works for export in PDF or image format, but not in Goodnotes format.
- When exporting multiple documents where at least one document is not a Lesson, you cannot export student work. By default, the export will only contain your own annotations, and not annotations from the Whiteboard mode.
- When using the auto-backup option, the exported Lessons will display Students’ work (layers) on top of each other. (This will be corrected in a future release.)
Smart Views have moved!
- Smart Views can now be found in the Student Navigator at the bottom of the screen when in Teach Mode.
