Easy to follow Activation Guide for Teachers

If you have just purchased Classroom and have set up your Goodnotes Admin Console and activated your license, you will need your Teachers to get set up on the app and start learning the tools.

You may have Teachers reaching out to you for help in getting set up, to help them, you can copy and paste this easy-to-follow Activation and Set-Up Guide.

Activation and Set-Up Guide

1. Downloading the App

There are 2 ways you can get the Classroom app, depending on how your school has set up its device management.

  • Managed Devices - If you use a managed device your IT Admin at your school will need to push the app to your device. This means Classroom should automatically install on your device.
  • Unmanaged or Personal Devices - Head to the App Store, search for Goodnotes Classroom and download the app.

2. Setting up a Goodnotes Account

If you have already set up a Goodnotes Account through Goodnotes 6, you can log in using the same account or create a new one if your existing account is not set up using your school email.

If you have not previously used Goodnotes 6 as part of your teaching, you will need to set up a Goodnotes Account.

  1. When you first launch Classroom, you will be asked to log in using one of the following methods:
    • Microsoft
    • Apple
    • Google
  2. Choose the method required by your school. For instance, if you are part of a Google School, sign in with your work Google account. If using Apple, do not use the Hide My Email function!

Please note: You must use a sign in method and email address that matches your schools domain, e.g xxx@goodnotescollege.edu.com. If you do not use the same domain, then you will not be able to join your schools Classroom Organisation.

My school uses the same domain as other schools in the area!

If your school uses the same domain as other schools in your district or region, you can still sign up with your SSO login, you will simply be asked to also input an org join code.

This code will be given to your school by the sales rep who helped you get onboarded and should be available by contacting your school's IT Admin.

If the code is not working, please contact your Admin and ask them to contact our support team.

3. Activate your Classroom License and join your School

Once you have created a Goodnotes Account, you will need to Activate your Classroom License giving you access to the app and connecting you to your School Folder.

There are 2 ways of doing this depending on the type of setup your institution has used but essentially, you will either:

  • Sign in and be asked to contact your Admin to verify you on their Console
    OR
  • Sign in and be asked to enter a code, this should be given out to you by your Admin and will be in the following format T-XXXXXX

If your code is valid, you will see Account Approved and will be able to continue to Classroom!

4. Creating a Class Folder

Now you are in, you can set up a Class Folder! Your Class Folder will be a space where you can store all your Lessons to be shared with a particular Class of Students. You can create as many of these as you like for all your different Classes or Subjects!

First off, head to the School Tab in your Sidebar and follow the steps below:

  1. To create a Class, select the + icon.
  2. You will then be able to give your Class a title, choose its color, and add Students to the Class.
  3. Tap Create Class Folder when you are done and voila, you have created your Class!

Any Workbook you now add to this Class will be shared with all enrolled Students automatically, so you can easily curate the content they can see. To learn more about Class Folders, check out this article.

Adding Students to the Class

As stated above, you can add Students to your Class when creating a Class Folder. The dropdown list will show you all the registered Students that have a Goodnotes Account connected to your school's Goodnotes Admin Console, if you don't see a Student's name here, you should contact your Admin to make sure this student is added.

If you don't want to add Students to the Class now, you don't have to! You can add or Remove Students later on.

You can learn more about adding Students to a Class here: Add Students to a Class

Please note: Your Students will need to be running Goodnotes 6, if they do not have Goodnotes 6 running on their devices and have not created Goodnotes Accounts, they will not appear in Classroom.

5. Create your first Lesson

A Lesson is like a Notebook in Goodnotes, but specific to Classroom. As a Teacher, you will be able to scroll through and see all your Student's versions of the Lesson and even write in them, without affecting your original version.

In order to create a new Lesson, head to one of the following tabs in the Library View:

  • Documents Tab: Creating a new document here will keep it private until you are ready to share it as a Lesson.
  • Class Tab: Creating a new document here will share it automatically with all students enrolled in the Class.

Once you are in either of these views, you can:

  1. Tap the New + icon in the top left.
  2. Choose an option to create your Lesson, import a file or create a new folder here!

If you choose to import a document, you can then look through your Files in the Share Sheet and tap Done to Import.

6. Get Teaching!
