If you find that certain files are greyed out and not selectable when trying to import it is because the files are likely not supported.
The following file types are currently supported:
- Image
- Word (.doc, .docx) and PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx)
- GoodNotes (.goodnotes)
- GoodNotes backup (.goodnotes.zip)
To import a non-supported file, like Excel, convert it to PDF first and import that PDF into GoodNotes:
- Open that file on your iPad. For example, if the file's in iCloud Drive, you can open it there.
- Tap the Share button > Print (or a similar function in the external app).
- Spread with 2 fingers over the Print Preview panel.
- Tap the Share button > Open in GoodNotes or Copy to GoodNotes.
If your files are an accepted file type, or the issue is still occurring:
- Force Quit and restart the app
- Log out and log back in again: If a restart didn't help, this method may be more effective.
- Seeing if the file can be opened on another device
- Duplicating the file and importing the copy
