Understanding Teach Mode

Transform your teaching with Teach Mode and engage students with interactive, live classroom demonstrations. Use AI-powered grading tools to take the hassle out of marking and a powerful suite of handwriting tools to annotate Lessons and Assignments. Display your annotations and edits on an external screen with Whiteboard View.

How to use Teach Mode

Teach is one of the two main Modes in Classroom. Once you have produced your Lesson, use Teach Mode during classes to guide students through materials and seamlessly view and grade Student work.

Switch into Teach Mode by pressing the Teach Mode button in the using the Nav Bar. When in Teach Mode, use the Class Navigator at the bottom of the screen to toggle between Whiteboard and Feedback modes. You can think of Whiteboard as writing on a class whiteboard, and Feedback for writing in a student's notebook.

Using Whiteboard

Access Whiteboard by pressing the Whiteboard icon in the Class Navigator.

All annotations in Whiteboard are only visible on the Teacher's device, so Students can take individual notes on their own devices. Combining these tools with Presentation Modes turns your device into a dynamic and interactive Whiteboard on an external display. Use Presentation Mode to display Student work to the class and make annotations without affecting their copy of the document.

Using Feedback

Access Feedback by pressing the Feedback icon in the Class Navigator.

Annotations and edits made to Student copies of the Lesson when using Feedback will be only visible to the selected Student. Switch Students using the arrows on the left and right of the Class Navigator, you will see the selected Student's icon move to the middle of the Student Menu.

Check out the video and instructions below for further detail on how to provide feedback on Student work using Teach Mode.

Grading

The Annotate View can also be used for grading, and there are a few different ways to view and grade student answers.

View by Student

The View by Student option lets Teachers observe the real-time working of a Student on their entire Lesson. You can leave feedback and gauge each Student's understanding of the content, or score their Assignments, then switch to other Students using the student menu at the bottom of the page.

Annotations made when viewing by Student will only be visible to the currently selected Student and can only be edited by the Teacher, meaning Students cannot Erase or edit your feedback!

View by Question

For a comprehensive overview of class performance, use View by Question to see all the student's answers displayed together per question, see Answer Zones to learn more. Get a quick snapshot and comparison of all students by viewing the provided answers and their scores either as a list or grid.

Tapping the List Settings button on the top right of the toolbar will open a popup menu to customize how many answers are displayed by zooming in and out.

Please note: View by Question will only display answers which have been written in defined Answer Zones.

Compare to Model Answer

Compare to Model Answer will group Students by how closely their answer matches a Model Answer. Define a Model Answer either through Whiteboard View (e.g. a worked example of a question) or by selecting one Student's answer.

Classroom's Smart Grading feature will then analyse all Student answers and group them by similarity to the model answer.

This tool will group student answers by no match, close match and partial match, however grading groups can be manually customized and assigned for a greater scope of questions.

Press the Add Group button in the toolbar to customize grading groups. The View by Question interface will then display the group names, students and points allocated in the blue box, efficiently creating an overview of the class performance with the power of AI.

Compare to Model Answer currently works best on the following question types: Multiple Choice, Fill in the blanks, True/False, and short text answers. It also works on both handwriting and typed text.

As our Compare to Model Answer feature uses Generative AI to analyse and group student answers, it may occasionally provide incorrect results. Certain student answers may not be properly recognised and analysed by the model. Teachers should also verify the results of Compare to Model Answer and make necessary adjustments.
