Getting yourself around Classroom is simple, especially if you have used Goodnotes before. Once you understand the core areas and tools you will come across, you should have no problem finding where you need to go. In this guide, you will find a breakdown of the different views and menus that you will need to use in Classroom, as well as how to access all your Settings!
The Library View and Sidebar
The Library View is your homepage. Here you can see all your Workbooks and Folders as well as the Sidebar. The Sidebar Menu will show you all your available tabs. These are:
- Documents: All of your personal Lessons and Documents
- School: All of your Class Folders
- Class Folders: Go straight to a Class Folder from here and see all the Lessons in that Class
- Favorites: All your favorite Workbooks are accessible easily here
- Search: Our powerful search tool, which will search through all your Lessons' content
Viewing Options
The Library View allows you to choose either List View or Grid View to display items in your library. Tap the View icon near the upper right to switch between these views.
Filtering
You can filter your Lessons by Date, Name and Type using the tabs above your Lessons.
Documents Tab
The Documents Tab shows you your personal, unshared documents. Here you will be able to browse your Lessons, manage and organise them into Folders and also perform actions like:
- Export
- Duplicate
- Move
- Trash
Performing an action
You can perform an action in one of two ways:
- Tap the Select Tool in the top right corner and select one or more Lessons or Folders to perform the action to. Then, choose an action at the top of the page.

Tap on the Arrow next to the Lesson name to bring up a pop-up menu of options. Here you have a few extra actions you can take:
- Rename your Lesson by tapping on the name in the pop-up window
- Duplicate your Lesson to your documents
- Open your Lesson in a New Window
- Export your Lesson
- Move your Lesson to trash
School Tab and Class Folders
The School Tab is a dropdown of all the Class Folders you are part of in your School or Institution. You can view these at different levels by either tapping on your School name or tapping the particular Class you need.
You can perform actions to Lessons, Folders and the Class in this Tab using the same steps as above from the Documents Tab and can also filter and view in the same way!
Favorites Tab
You can tap on the Star icon in the upper right of a document or on the folder thumbnail in your library and it will be added to the Favorites Tab. Once there, you can view this by simply heading to the Favorites Tab in your Sidebar Menu where they will all be available to view.
All the same actions are available to you here as they are in the Documents and School Tabs and you have the same viewing and filtering options too!
Search
Classroom utilizes the powerful search abilities of Goodnotes 6, to search not only your Lesson titles but also the content within them, both handwritten and text-based. To use Search, simply open the Search Tab and type in the Search box in the top right.
Your results will then be organised by Lesson Type and Date automatically. You will also see that each result shows the Lesson first and then all the pages that are relevant to your search.
Tap on any result to be taken to either the Lesson in general or the exact page you need.
The Lesson View
The Lesson View is the default way you will view and work on your Lessons. Open up any of your Lessons by tapping on it in the Library View to launch the Lesson View.
Here you will find:
- The Navigation Bar
- The Toolbar
- Sidebar
- Lesson panel
In the Lesson View you can also access Settings for Document Editing in the More Menu on the Nav Bar.

Settings
To use Classroom to the fullest, it will be necessary for you to access your Settings from time to time. In Settings, you will have options to set up the app to look and work best for you, as well as manage Cloud Storage and Sync and other useful features.
To access Settings, head to the Gear Menu in the top left corner of any Tab in the Library View except for Search.
In Settings you will find:
- Your Account Information: Information about your Goodnotes Account.
- Manage Lesson Templates: Set Default Templates for new Lessons and more!
- Settings: All your Classroom and Document Editing Settings.
- Cloud and Sync: Manage your Cloud and Syncing settings here.
- Trash: Access all your deleted files for recovery or final deletion.

- About: Information about your App version, this is helpful for troubleshooting issues.
