How is Goodnotes Classroom different from Goodnotes 6?

You may be familiar with Goodnotes 6 already. You may have already been using it for teaching and are asking yourself, 'What is so different about Goodnotes Classroom?'. If so, then this quick explanation should help you work out which app to use and when!

First things first

It is important to note that Classroom is designed to work with Goodnotes 6. Your students will be using Goodnotes 6 exclusively, while teachers will build and run their lessons using Classroom. If you are not already using Goodnotes 6 in your school, please read the section below before continuing.

What is Goodnotes 6?

If you haven't used it before, Goodnotes 6 is our award-winning note-taking application, centred around study, work, lifestyle planning and more.

Goodnotes 6 is a consumer app, meaning anybody can download and use it for free and it comes with a ton of features for studying, mind mapping, organising and also teaching.

Teachers have been using Goodnotes 6 for live lessons, online tutoring and setting assignments for many years as a standalone application. Now with Classroom, specialised tools will make teaching on the Goodnotes platform even more productive.

What new features does Goodnotes Classroom have that Goodnotes 6 doesn't?

Goodnotes Classroom comes with bespoke tools designed for teaching classes with multiple students. Built to work just like Goodnotes 6, but with many added features to save you time so you can focus on actually teaching. These include but are not limited to:

Goodnotes Classroom is first and foremost a tool to use when teaching, and works most effectively when teaching multiple students.

Can I use both or should I pick one?

You can absolutely use both, your students will also be using Goodnotes 6 so in fact, it might help to have some knowledge of the app! Goodnotes Classroom will be always linked to your Institution, whereas your Goodnotes Account may be used personally depending on how your device is managed. You may decide that you want to use different tools for different tasks. For example:

  • Using Goodnotes 6 for all personal note-taking, while using Goodnotes Classroom at work.
  • Using Goodnotes Classroom when teaching in school, while using Goodnotes 6 for tutoring on the side.
  • Producing materials in Goodnotes 6 if you already have a large amount of materials on the platform, then bringing these materials into Goodnotes Classroom to convert for use with your students.

You don't need to decide to use one or the other, and if you have already purchased Goodnotes 6 and are using this effectively for your work, a move to Goodnotes Classroom won't leave your Goodnotes app unused!
